Watercolour painting

I have been working with watercolour for over 25 years.

During this time, botanical illustration was my primary focus. However, in 2013 during an artist trip to Gallipoli, I began documenting objects other than natural history subjects. I painted the shrapnel, badges, and bullets found lying in the gullies in the shadow of the Sphinx on the Gallipoli peninsula. I painted two life-sized Lee Enfield rifles, and a slouch hat replete with emu feathers.

I’ve painted vases, cups, spoons, birds and fish but have never abandoned the botanical theme.

Whatever subject I choose, it generally follows the same process as I use with my botanical illustration; accuracy in size and colour on an unpainted background.
